Please be lenient when reviewing the info listed here. I've just recently begun researching this family and am still attempting to put everyone in their proper place. As always, if you notice anything wrong with the facts presented here, please send me an e-mail and I'll make the necessary correction.
Good grief but this is a tough family to research! It seems that every male named their sons with the same names. Trying to differentiate one Cornelius or Leonard from another is no easy task. To make matters worse, there usually isn't but a year or two that separate the two Smock's you're trying to research. And don't even get me started on how many other researchers have their own opinions on who goes with which family! Adding to the confusion is the belief by some researchers that the Smock's originated in Germany while others believe the Smock's come from The Netherlands. :)
MATTHYS SMOCK was born about 1618 in the Netherlands. He married N. N. JANSEN. She was born about 1620.

Is shown living with her son, Cornelius, in 1850 in Greenwood, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. She is listed as being 76 years old but keep in mind that census records were frequently wrong and she most likely was older. The census does show her as being born in New Jersey.

After the death of Peter, Rebecca married Thomas Abbott about 1844 and had one son, Henry W. Abbott, born in 1845 in Greenwood, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Thomas died between 1850-1860 because in 1860, Rebecca is married to James McCracken and living in Sandy Creek, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. James dies between 1870-1880 in Sandy Creek. Rebecca follows in 1882.

Notes for IRVIN SMOCK
On the 1900 census, there is a 3 year old girl, MILDRED, living in the household and she is listed as a granddaughter of IRVIN, born in December, 1896 in Pennsylvania. She is ELLA'S daughter but ELLA is listed as single with the last name of SMOCK. Could ELLA being an unwed mother be the reason the family moved to Ohio? In 1896 it was scandalous to have a child out of wedlock so maybe they moved to salvage ELLA'S reputation. MILDRED is born in Pennsylvania but by 1900 the family is living in Ohio so they moved sometime during those four years.
Also on the 1900 census, it is listed that FLORA had seven children with six living. There is a four year gap between IDA and MILTON so there could have been a child born during those years but on the 1910 census, it shows FLORA having six children with six living. So which is correct?
