Oakley Virgil Rhead

BELOIT - Oakley V. Rhead, age 88, died on Wednesday, December 23, 1998. He resided comfortably at Harmony Manor, Beloit, for the past few years and died of heart failure. Oakley was born on January 8, 1910 in Alma Center, Wisconsin. He was the son of William Robert Rhead and Flora Mae (Endicott) Rhead. He married Eunice Prudence Crockett in Neillsville, Wisconsin on October 17, 1933. Eunice died on January 1, 1985 while they were wintering in Phoenix, Arizona. Oakley loved to hunt and fish, he especially enjoyed his outings with his sons, brothers, and nephews. Upon retirement in 1976, Oakley and Eunice moved to Millston, Wisconsin. For several years he worked as a crane operator for the Habelman Cranberry Growers. He was a member of the Millston Gun Club for many years. He is survived by his three children, Charlotte Sutton of West Springfield, Massachusetts, Jack (Neva) Rhead of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Larry (Louise) Rhead of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; a brother, Richard (Betty) Rhead; two sisters, Opal Spangler of Beloit, and Myrtle Schoonover of South Beloit, Illinois. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Lisa Wold (Rhead) of Sparta, Londa (Rhead) Griese of DeForest, Rianne Rhead of Lake Dallas, Texas, Wendy Rhead of Dallas, Texas, Jimmy Sutton of Titusville, New Jersey, Steve Sutton of West Springfield, Massachusetts, Joe Sutton of Chicople, Massachusetts, and Susan Sutton of West Springfield, Massachusetts; eight great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eunice; his parents, William and Flora Rhead; four brothers, Billy, Frank, Elwin, and John Rhead; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nora (Dale) Colwell, Elsie (Kenneth) Metcalf, and Alice (Tom) Kreci; two brothers-in-law, Jack Spangler and Vern Schoonover; and a son-in-law, Steve Sutton.
