Hugh Rhead

Hugh E. "Buck" Rhead, 78, of Black River Falls, died March 26 at Black River Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1901 in the town of Garden Valley, Jackson County, to John H. and Alice Williams Rhead.

He married Frances L. Lyons on March 5, 1927 in Belvidere, Ill. He was employed as a construction worker in the Beloit area for several years, before purchasing a farm near Black River Falls. In 1943 he became employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He retired in 1963.

In addition to living in Beloit, they lived in Merrillan, Black River Falls, and Millston. They moved from Millston to Black River Falls in August of 1976.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David of Memphis, Tenn., and James of Warren, Mich.; a daughter, Beverly Michael, of St. Charles, Ill.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held March 29 from the Charles Buswell Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery at Alma Center.
