A funeral Mass for Dale C. Michael, 79, will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, at St. John Neumann Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles, with Monsignor Robert B. Hoffman, celebrant. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be from 5 till 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St., St. Charles, where a liturgical wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Born March 26, 1927, in Walker, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Elsie (nee Valenta) Michael, he died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Michael had served in the Coast Guard during World War II. For 10 years, he was employed by H. J. Heinz Company in the Chicago area. After 39 years in sales, he retired from Eby-Brown in Elgin. Dale had served as an election judge in St. Charles. After having grown up on a farm in Iowa, Dale enjoyed gardening and each year had his plots in Campton Township. He took great pride in growing beautiful amaryllis. Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years as of the end of June, Beverly; his loving children, Kevin (Kathleen) Michael of Batavia and Kathy (David) Thonn of Naperville; his dear grandchildren, Frank and Nick Michael and Andrew and Kyle Thonn; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Rita Rhead of West Branch, Michigan, and David and Ann Rhead of Bartlett, Tennessee; his cousins, Betty Perkins of Knoxville, Iowa, and Evelyn (Cheryl) Rutledge of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Henrietta Michael.
