Not much is known of the parentage of John Doggett (1602-1673) and what is listed here is speculation based loosely on old records of the time. Mrs. George St. John Sheffield states in her book, Sheffield, Daggett and Allied Families, that the Daggett name was established in the counties of Yorkshire, Cambridge, Oxford, Kent, Somerset, Norfolk and Suffolk in England. She claims the ancestral branch of the family that settled in Attleborough, Massachusetts was established in Suffolk in 1526, the head of the family at that time being Richard Doggett.
RICHARD DOGGETT was born unknown and died unknown. He was supposedly a wealthy inhabitant of Groton, Suffolk, England in 1526 although no reference is made regarding his age at the time.
Child of RICHARD DOGGETT is:
JOHN DOGGETT (RICHARD DOGGETT1) was born unknown and died unknown.

WILLIAM DOGGETT (JOHN DOGGETT2) was born about 1557 and died October 10, 1610 in Boxford, Suffolk, England. He married AVIS (ALICE) LAPPAGE, June 1, 1591 in Boxford, Suffolk, England. She was born August, 1568 in Lavenham, Suffolk, England and died unknown.

She was born 1604 in Edgartown, Dukes County, Massachusetts. He married (2) BATHSHEBA PRATT August 29, 1667 at Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
Notes for JOHN DOGGETT
In "A Sketch of the History of Attleborough From Its Settlement to the Division" by John Daggett, the author states, "John Doggett's first wife's name is not known, but they had five children, all except the first probably born in Watertown." The author only mentions Thomas Daggett, he doesn't mention the other children's names. However, in "A History of the Doggett-Daggett Family in America" by Samuel Bradlee Doggett, all five children are named with the first, John, being born in England and the other four being born in Massachusetts. The one thing the two authors agree on is that Thomas was born in 1630. Since John apparently arrives in Massachusetts in 1630, I would guess that his son, Thomas, was probably born in Massachusetts.
Children of JOHN DOGGETT and HEPZIBAH BROTHERTON are:
THOMAS DAGGETT (JOHN DOGGETT4) was born March 1630 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and died September 15, 1691. HANNAH'S second husband was Samuel Smith.
Notes for THOMAS DAGGETT
It is recorded that Thomas was the first in the family to spell his surname with an "a" instead of an "o" thus changing Doggett to Daggett.

Notes for MARY DAGGETT
The information presented here is from a combination of personal databases I found online. They all had the same spouses and children listed and approximately the same dates. However, I can't find any info on Abraham Studwell nor can I locate a MARY STUDWELL on the 1860 census. There is an ABRAM STUDWELL shown on the 1840 census for Hancock County, Illinois. Assuming that ABRAM and ABRAHAM is the same person, that still doesn't explain why I can't locate a MARY STUDWELL on the 1850 or 1860 census. If MARY STUDWELL dies in 1861, she should be shown on the 1850 and 1860 census under that name, but I can't find her.
