This is a brief, rather rough outline of my Covert ancestors. I do plan on adding to this listing in the coming weeks.

Generation No. 1

TEUNIS JANSSEN COEVORS was born about 1620 in Lommel, Province of Brabandt, Holland and died March 13, 1697 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He married BARBARA LUCAS van KESSEL, about 1645 in Hoorn, Province of Noordt Hollandt, Holland, daughter of LUCAS van KESSEL. She was born about 1625 in Holland and died after April, 1700 in Long Island, New York. They emigrated to America in 1651.

Notes for TEUNIS JANSZEN COEVORS
Information I've found online from other researchers state that Teunis and Barbara emigrated to America in 1651, leaving their four children behind in Holland. Lucas emigrates in 1653 so I assume the other children came with him. I didn't believe Teunis and Barbara left their children behind but evidence seems to indicate they did. Jan/Hans was baptized in 1651 and his parents left for America that same year. Their next child was born and baptized in New York in April, 1653. In the middle of 1652 Barbara became pregnant with that child so she obviously was with her husband at that time. So, who brought the children to America? And why didn't they accompany their parents on the voyage in 1651?

LUCAS TEUNIS COVERT (TEUNIS JANSSEN COEVORS1) was baptized February 24, 1647 in Holland and died after 1703 in Long Island, New York. He married BARBARA SPRONG, April 27, 1682 in Long Island, New York. She was born July 27, 1661 in Long Island, New York and died 1737 in Long Island, New York.

Notes for BARBARA SPRONG
In "History of the First Reformed Dutch Church," there is an entry under "A Few of the Transfers of Sittings, 1737" that refers to BARBARA FREEST being mother to TUNIS COVERT. This must mean that BARBARA married a second husband named FREEST after LUCAS died.
