Allin Ancestors

The Allin name is a tough name to research as it's spelled different ways. In old records this name is spelled both as Allin and Allen. There also appears to be two seemingly different Richard Allin's coming to Virginia in 1635. I have never encountered such conflicting data regarding any family (except the Burton's). Please take what is listed here with "a grain of salt." I am working on sorting through all the information on this family but if anyone has any info on Richard Allin and his descendants, please e-mail me.

RICHARD ALLIN was born November 9, 1572 in Skillington, Lincoln, England and died October 25, 1621 in Stowting, Kent, England. He married CHRISTIAN. She was born about 1575 and died about 1640.

ROBERT ALLIN (RICHARD ALLIN3) was born about 1675 in St. Paul's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia and died between March 3, 1755 and October 4, 1756 in Goochland(?) County, Virginia. He married SARAH.

Notes for ROBERT ALLIN
From Historical Southern Families, Volume III - Robert Allin died intestate before October 4, 1756, when Sarah Allin, his widow, was granted administration upon his estate. An account of the estate was returned May 1758 and John Williamson, Thomas Williamson and Nathaniel Bacon were ordered to examine same.

From The Valentine Papers, Volume I - March 3, 1755, Robert Allen of Henrico deeds to Joseph Allen, his son, for £50, 200 acres in Henrico being part of the land which Robert bought of Michael Holland's executors adjoining the land of John Moseley, John Ford and Richard Allen. Recorded, April 7, 1755.

She married NOWELL HUNT BURTON, 1715 in Virginia, son of ROBERT BURTON and MARY NOWELL. He was born 1692 in Henrico County, Virginia and died October 13, 1766 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.

Notes for NOWELL HUNT BURTON
Lived in Henrico County until he was 19, then moved into what would soon be known as Goochland, Virginia. Then moved south across James River to the region of Willis River (later known as Cumberland) and finally to Mecklenburg County, Virginia, where he died....Source: Early Virginia Families along the James River.

Goochland County was formed from Henrico County in 1728 so the first five children were actually born in Henrico County. Cumberland County was formed from Goochland County in 1749 and Mecklenburg County was formed from Lunenburg County in 1765. Some researchers list the current county name as the birthplace of an ancestor but I prefer to list the county name as it was known at the time of birth.
